Off for the Labor Day holiday
Posted by Michael Martinez on August 29, 2008 in General
Visible Technologies observes the U.S. Labor Day holiday, so we will not be working on Monday. That means the next blog post on SEO Theory will be published on Tuesday, September 1, 2008.
I hope you have a great weekend and a safe holiday experience!
Why I No Longer Blog for SEOmoz
Posted by Michael Martinez on July 23, 2008 in General
There seems to be a growing misperception in the industry that I must have parted with Rand Fishkin on bad terms or something in 2006 after blogging for SEOmoz for almost a year. Nothing could be farther from the truth, and after seeing yet one more petty comment on the Web today that reinforces [...]
All your links are broke to us
Posted by Michael Martinez on July 17, 2008 in General
Have you noticed anything different about SEO Theory today?
We moved it to a new server and upgraded the Wordpress. Other than that, nothing’s changed — except that our admin subtly altered the URL structure (probably because I’ve been whining about it for over a year).
Now the SEO Theory blog thinks it’s located at http://www.seo-theory.com/wordpress/ [...]
Debra Mastaler asks Matt Cutts: Does Google pass 2nd link value?
Posted by Michael Martinez on July 10, 2008 in General
Does Google pass value through a second link on a page? Debra Mastaler wants to cut through the rhetoric and see if Google is willing to answer the question, directly or indirectly.
It’s a novel concept. Maybe it will work.
Go, Debra!
Good Lord, VanDeMar, be HONEST for a change!
Posted by Michael Martinez on July 9, 2008 in General
Well, it seems that Michael VanDeMar wants to grind his axe a little more. It has been my experience that most people won’t reread entire discussions, so Mr. VanDeMar has employed the well-known trick of taking things out of context to mislead people.
Keep in mind that I intend to never say anything about this [...]
Michael Arrington still doesn’t understand search
Posted by Michael Martinez on July 8, 2008 in General
Michael Arrington has once again called for a Microsoft-Yahoo! merger. Arrington’s support for one of the most stupid ideas in the history of search technology is amazingly blind.
The only Yahoo! stockholders who stand to gain anything from this proposed merger will be those who take the money and run. Frankly, I don’t see [...]

We have the U.S. Independence Day weekend off. The next SEO Theory post should appear Sunday evening or Monday morning.
Have a good weekend!
Dear Google - This ain’t cloaking
Posted by Michael Martinez on July 2, 2008 in General
NOTE: Google updated its position on this topic and issued a retraction within a day of seeing the outrage expressed by the SEO community. As long as a site is blocking the regional search engine crawlers along with all other traffic from the region, Google won’t have a problem.
In my opinion, if you’re blocking [...]
Google, Trends, and Obscenity
Posted by Michael Martinez on June 24, 2008 in General
The New York Times and other sources are reporting that Google has been subpoenaed to release Google Trends data pertaining to Florida to assist the defense in an obscenity trial.
If Google complies with the subpoena their release of data may have a long-ranging impact on offline and online social standards in the United States. [...]
Google’s unethical bullying compromises web quality
Posted by Michael Martinez on June 17, 2008 in General
Disclaimer: This post only reflects my opinion and does not necessarily represent the views of my employer, co-workers, or anyone else.
Matt Cutts wrote something very disturbing on his blog today:
At the very end of the interview, I took the opportunity to send some props toward SocialSpark. As opposed to some services where paid posts pass [...]
