David Castle and hacking for links

by Michael Martinez on August 20, 2009

David Castle has absolutely nothing to do with hacking for links. I just don’t have time to do two separate posts here today.

David Castle, known to many people in the SEO community as CTABUK, passed away last Saturday after a brief battle with a very aggressive cancer. I only just learned of his death this morning. I wrote a brief post at Best SEO Blog as soon as I checked my email.

David was a really nice guy who occasionally asked me to weigh in on various SEO topics or sometimes just shared interesting info with me via email or some forum post. He never seemed to take sides in all the ugliness that can become pervasive on the Internet.

David was a very creative guy. He had a YouTube channel, a blog where he shared personal information about himself, and Lord knows what else I have never discovered about the man.

Members of David’s SEO forum, SEOers, are collecting donations for (I think — I don’t have the email with me) a memorial bouquet. His funeral is scheduled for Monday.

Friends and fans are remembering David at Warrior Forum and Web Pro World.

David, I hope your new journey is an exciting and happily rewarding one.

On a completely unrelated note, I was interested to see that Michael Gray and Matt Cutts have teamed up to film a PSA video warning people not to hack sites for links. I think that initiative deserves some support.

Don’t Hack Sites For Links.
