Introducing the SEO Theory Search Engine Optimization Quick Reference Guide

by Michael Martinez on December 18, 2007

Everybody wants me to write a book on SEO Theory but no one wants to give me time to do it.

So here is the next best thing. I’ve added a 71-page eBook to the SEO Theory white papers section. The eBook is an expanded version of an in-house document we’ve compiled for our training library. It’s a .PDF file and I hope everyone finds that format acceptable.

You won’t find any sales pitches in the document. No plugs for 1st Query SEO services, no plugs for 1st Query SEO tools, no advertisements, etc. It’s just a selection of articles that cover the broadest possible spectrum of SEO Theory.

I’ve included some illustrations but truth be told I didn’t really have time to do as many as I would like. Nor am I much of an illustrator, for that matter.

Although I’m not asking anyone to help promote the eBook, if you do choose to tell others about it, PLEASE DO NOT DEEP LINK TO THE .PDF FILE. We’d like to track traffic to the SEO white papers page.

But, you know, these kinds of documents have ways of being passed around. We’ll never know what its true popularity is.

For those of you who have been reading SEO Theory all along, I think you’ll see the value in the selections I’ve made, the organization, and in the presentation. For those of you who have been asking for a full RSS feed, this is about as close as we’re going to get.

There is a little bit of previously unpublished material in the eBook, just three brief introductory notes. I think the eBook would be a good resource for any company that wants to build an in-house training program or reference library. There is a lot of practical, “how-to” advice in the eBook as well as some of the more theoretical posts I’ve been able to share.

And though people have insisted that we could probably make a lot of money by selling an eBook, I have neither the time nor the financial incentive to do a really nice book. My employer owns the intellectual property rights to everything I write on SEO and, frankly, my team and I are managing a $1 million+ SEO portfolio as it is. We’d have to sell an awful lot of eBooks to justify that kind of effort.

If you want to make suggestions for a future update I’ll be glad to receive them here. I hope people find the resource useful.

Great SEO Guide. It covers the beginning levels on up to the advanced levels, so it may take me awhile to get through all the tips and theories. Thanks.

Thank you. I read most of it yesterday. This is an amazing resource. Honestly this is the only SEO blog I read anymore. If I hear the words “PageRank” or “Link Building” one more time I think I am going to scream.

I have been discussing the importance of on-site optimization with my company for the past 6 months and they are having a hard time budging from their tried-and-true method of linking.

As far as I am concerned you can link until your head turns blue, but if you have a crappy site no one is going to stick around long enough for it to matter.

Cheers!
