Brad Enslen, a long-time member of the SEO community, has launched a use directory search in November campaign. I think it’s a good idea, although I’m going to offer a twist.
Whereas Brad is promoting major directories that are well-known and generally trusted, I suggest that people find some niche directories and test their thoroughness. See how well they cover their topics. Share some directory link love on your blogs and forums to help people find specialty directories that do a good job of covering useful information.
Brad’s experience in niche directory management goes way back. Not only does he offer a SciFi directory and SciFi search, he also manages Duneland, A search directory and tourism guide to the Duneland Communities on the southern shores of Lake Michigan in Porter County, Indiana. I have no idea of where Porter County, Indiana is, but that sounds like a niche directory to me.
November is an opportunity for people in the SEO community to be less self-promotional and more co-promotional. Don’t run around to all the forums and tell people about your directories — that’s just cheap, shlocky, bad promotion. Tell people about niche directories you’d really like to help promote.
